Providing member information

One of the challenges we have as a club is how to effectively manage our membership.  We are a small all-volunteer board and we have a club of around 400 members.  We want to make it easy for our members to know about events and to stay members of the club, we also want to make it easy for us to deal with routine operations so we can focus on organizing events and providing higher value services for the MFCNY.

We use Paypal to handle membership dues.  When someone pays they dues through Paypal our website receives an electronic message.  We use that message to track who is a member (we used to do this manually, and it was very error-prone and time consuming, and meant we had to have January-December membership cycles).  As part of this process we create an account for each member on our site.  When people sign-up for events they should log in to the site, we can use all of this information to make things much quicker and easier on the sign-in desk on event nights.

However, who wants to remember their MFCNY.org account?  No one! (not even me).  We have added the ability to log in with Facebook.  We request your email address from Facebook in a hope that it matches your Paypal email - we can then glue everything together in an effort to identify you as a member of the club.

We also give people the abiltiy to log in to our site using Google Friend Connect, but we are not allowed to access your email address via this mechanism.

We do not want to violate your privacy and will not sure your information with other organizations without your express permission.
