Following a review of Navy Basic Military Training curriculum, the American Council on Education (ACE) has recommended nine college credits be awarded upon graduation from the Navy’s only boot camp.

Navy College Program (NCP) – This program enables you to receive academic credit for training you receive and work you perform while serving on Active Duty. This includes classes and coursework completed remotely when you’re deployed, including on ships and submarines.
How many college credits do you get for military service?
Military experience alone could be worth up to 20 college credits! Most colleges grant 4 semester hours in physical fitness for recruit training. In addition, colleges usually give credit for other service schools attended, as long as those courses are longer than two weeks and are not of a classified nature.

Commissioned Officers are members of the Navy or Navy Reserve who have a degree from a four-year college or university as a minimum educational requirement and have gone through Officer Training.

Advancement for enlisted personnel in Navy ranks depends on several factors, including promotion performance evaluation marks and proficiency exam scores. The best way to move up the ladder in the naval service is by demonstrating a record of excellent work performance as well as effective leadership of others.
For advancement to E-4, the member must have a minimum of 6 months Time in Rate (TIR) and an E-3. For advancement to E-5, member must have 12 months TIR as an E-4. For advancement to E-6, member must have a minimum of 36 months TIR as an E-5*.
